  • SVCHOST issue, KB927891 and WSUS 3.0 Client

The new WSUS 3.0 server is due for release next week, which is good news for administrators everywhere. The better news is that, a few weeks later, the WSUS 3 client will also be released which will help further with the CPU spiking and high memory use. I have called into MS for this updated WSUS 3.0...

  • Outlook 2003 Client disconnectivity after Windows 2003 SP2 on SBS2003

I forgot to post this, but I had the issue again today so I was reminded! I posted on this thread back in January about how the Broadcom issue on SBS with ISA was driving me crazy. Well, since then I simply avoid Broadcom cards and still will. However, one of the comments on that thread from Victor in...

  • Windows 2003 SP2 and IE7

OK, this is just crazy stuff. Not only do they side swipe us with this release of Service Pack 2 for Windows 2003 Server, but on this page they say: “If you installed Internet Explorer 7 after installing Windows Server 2003 SP1, you must un-install Internet Explorer 7 before you install Windows...

  • Broadcom TOE, Dell, ISA 2004 and my headache....

A while back I posted about how Broadcom and it’s TOE system in the Dell PowerEdge 2900 stops ISA from functioning on Small Business Server 2003. Well, since then I have installed a few more Dell servers, all with Intel cards and have had no problems. However, once recent order managed to slip...

  • SVCHOST Patch is now publicly available without the call in.....

As per my previous rants here , here , here and here .... The patch is now released without the call in requirement. Go get them! XP version 2003 version Some people will still have the 100% CPU spikes, especially when Update Services "Checks in", but a new update should come for that soon...

  • Patch 927891 support article "official"...

As per this blogpost Microsoft finally made the article live. Susan gives you the American way to get the patches.... here in Europe you call the local Microsoft support number and give the article number to request the patch. You do NOT need to give them credit card information for a hotfix (as some...

  • Hey Nick... WUS up with pulling the links?

Today, two men, both wearing sunglasses came to the front door. There was a flash of red light and that's the last thing I remember. Since then, this post lost it's links. OK, here is the real scoop. Microsoft are very aware that this stupid and highly frustrating issue needs to be addressed and the...

  • So shoot me.... The downloads for the WSUS Patch for the 100% CPU use and Memory leak.

EDIT: Links pulled again.... explaination in a blog post later. I put these up before and took them down to keep the peace. Since no one in Microsoft is taking action to make this patch more publicly available I am going to. I can deal with the consequences (which I doubt there will be). Maybe soon we...

  • How Broadcom and Dell wasted three days of my time....

Another one of my late posts. Susan actually already posted about it here and here . She referred to them as Evil. I will refer to them as possessed. I am going to skip all the detail and simply say that ISA 2004 completely died and stopped routing traffic due to crappy Broadcom drivers. Even top level...

  • Bye bye hotmail and yahoo.

GFI Mailessentials is fantastic. Email antispam and control has never been easier for my offices SBS network. Up until today however, even GFI's filters were not catching 99% of the spam. But I have taken a major step... I have blocked entirely the @hotmail domains and the @yahoo domains. Why? Simple...
